Empowering Futures: Tailored Support for Young People with EHCPs

At Empowering Futures, we provide personalised education and support for young people aged 16 and over with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), offering an alternative to mainstream education. Our holistic approach ensures each individual receives the support needed to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Individualised Learning

We offer flexible learning environments with small group sessions or 1:1 support, tailored to each learner's preferences and needs. Timetables are provided in formats that suit each learner, including visual schedules, and can be adjusted based on the young person's mood and ability on any given day. If there's a particular support or resource not currently offered, we are committed to exploring how we can deliver it to meet the evolving needs of our learners.

Creative Arts and Expressive Learning

We incorporate creative writing through drama and music into our curriculum, allowing learners to express themselves and develop communication skills in an engaging and supportive environment.

Collaboration with the Life Skills Centre, Bristol

We collaborate with the Life Skills Centre in Bristol, providing learners with opportunities to engage in practical, real-life scenarios that enhance their learning experiences and prepare them for future employment.

Our social care programme offers a person-centred approach, tailoring support to each young person's individual needs and aspirations. Sessions are delivered in small groups, fostering a supportive environment where participants can build meaningful connections, enhance social skills, and collaborate effectively. This group setting promotes a sense of community and encourages shared learning and mutual support.

We provide services 52 weeks a year, excluding bank holidays and designated staff training days, ensuring continuous support and opportunities for growth throughout the year.

Key Skills Developed:

  • Confidence and Self-Esteem: Engaging in structured activities allows young people to set and achieve personal goals, boosting their self-worth and belief in their abilities.
  • Problem-Solving and Critical Thinking: Facing challenges during activities encourages participants to think creatively and develop effective solutions, enhancing their cognitive abilities.
  • Emotional Regulation: Activities provide a safe space for expressing and managing emotions, helping young people develop resilience and emotional intelligence.
  • Social Skills and Teamwork: Collaborating in group settings teaches effective communication, cooperation, and conflict resolution, fostering a sense of community and belonging.
  • Time Management and Organisation: Planning and completing projects within set timelines helps participants develop organisational skills and the ability to manage their time effectively.
  • Self-Expression and Creativity: Engaging in creative activities allows young people to express their thoughts and feelings, enhancing their ability to communicate and think imaginatively.

Through our person-centred, small-group sessions, young people gain essential life skills, emotional resilience, and a supportive network, all contributing to their journey toward independence and well-being.

What Is the Arts Award?

The Arts Award is a suite of qualifications designed to support young people (up to age 25) in exploring and developing their creative talents. Offered by Empowering Futures and supported by Arts Council England, the award encourages participants to engage in arts activities, experience arts events, and develop leadership skills. It is suitable for all young people, including those who may find traditional qualifications challenging.

The Arts Award comprises five levels:

Registered Art Award Centre

We are a registered AQA Centre and are proud to offer a diverse range of awards that reflect the varied interests of our young people. While the possibilities are vast, our programmes have included:

  • Baking & Cooking Skills: Developing culinary techniques, understanding nutrition, and practicing food safety.
  • Woodwork & Willow Projects: Learning craftsmanship, design, and problem-solving through hands-on creation.
  • Horticulture Skills: Gaining knowledge in plant care, sustainability, and environmental stewardship.
  • Life Skills: Acquiring practical abilities such as sewing, budgeting, and effective shopping strategies.

Each unit is designed to build confidence and self-esteem by providing clear, achievable goals. We begin with accessible units to ensure quick wins, allowing learners to experience success early on. This approach fosters a sense of accomplishment and motivates continued learning.

The AQA Unit Award Scheme is a flexible and inclusive framework that enables us to tailor learning experiences to individual needs. By celebrating each achievement, we help our learners build a portfolio of skills and knowledge that supports their personal growth and prepares them for future challenges.
