Our Forestry school provides ongoing sessions promoting education in an outdoor setting. These sessions are particularly for those children with additional needs and will run after school and on the weekend. We make use of natural resources and learn about our environment and what we can do to protect it. We provide an inclusive and supportive environment where children can learn to care for our animals and the wildlife that surrounds them.
In addition to offering ASDAN courses that are detailed on our training page, we are also working with Community Learning to provide courses in Horticulture and Animal Care at Level 1. These courses are for those who have little or no qualifications and those that face the greatest barriers in society.
We were proud to be able to provide the planters and plants for a project funded by Staple Hill councillors and Bromford Housing. Our planters take pride of place on Staple Hill high street. When we planted them in 2020 we carefully chose plants that attract pollinators and those that help to reduce emissions from the air, so they have a purpose as well as brightening up the local community space.
We offer a variety of crafting sessions to small groups during the course of this year. We aim to do a new session each week and use feedback from those attending as to what they would like to do at future sessions. Some of the sessions we have previously run have covered Willow weaving, felting, outdoor cooking, making bird feeders and making cloths from reused fabric.
We offer a variety of workshops;
There are currently only 240 Care Farms currently operating in the UK.
Care Farms benefit many vulnerable people, including adults and children with disabilities and mental health disorders.
Care Farms provide a safe space to encourage development in all areas, for example social skills and healthy life skills.
Our sessions in horticulture and animal care provide hidden exercise and time spent in accessible green space.
Time spent outdoors improves physical and mental health.
People who are able to access care farms are able to increase their confidence in social skills, learn practical skills and are given support to find employment.
